Groundsheet Support

Groundsheet shows PDF maps on your iPhone or iPad, with your position on them. It works offline and needs no account.

Add a map

• In Groundsheet, tap + › Add Map, and pick a PDF file in Files.
• Or, in another app, share a PDF file to Groundsheet.

Your position shows only on a georeferenced PDF: a PDF map that contains GPS coordinates, often called a geospatial PDF. Other PDF files open as plain maps, with no position. For the United States, you can get free US Topo maps, which are geospatial PDFs, from the USGS at The National Map Downloader.

Location

• Allow location access While Using the App. Groundsheet does not need Always access.
• A track that you record continues while the screen is locked, until you tap Stop.
• Turn on Precise Location for Groundsheet in the Settings app. A track keeps only positions with an error of 25 m or less.
• If you are not on the map that you opened, tap the location button. An alert tells you how far away you are.

Your data

Your maps, pins, photos, voice notes, and tracks stay on your device. To move them to another app, use Share: the pins, lines, areas, and tracks of a map go out as a KML file. The privacy policy tells what can leave your device.
